NOTE

1. C1248 (Rovies: Palaiochori) has been moved from its site in previous versions of this atlas to this new position which better agrees with the Sackett's [1966] sketch map (47, fig. 5) and his verbal description (48, section '20. Rovies: Palaiokhori').

The key to this topography appears to be the small village of Aghianakos (now much reduced) which I place (based on Topoguide) at F6130.

Before reaching Aghianakos the path leads past a church of which Sackett has this to say "At the top of the hill, following the road to Ayios Ayinnakos, are the ruins of a Byzantine church and its dependencies, which probably gave the area its name (i.e., Palaiochori, RHC), though modern Palaiokhori is 1 km. further north-east (south-east, RHC)." I have placed this chapel, following Topoguide (which labels it 'Aghianakos') at F6131.

The place where the track from Rovies to Aghianakkos breaks off to the right to go to Palaiochori is at F6132.

C1248 (corresponding to Sackett's Palaiochori A on the map on p. 47) is now placed significantly to the W of this intersection but north of the road. From the map and from Sackett's description I believe we are to understand that there are sherd concentrations on both sides of this road ("To right and left of the path the land rises, and both slopes are strewn with sherds.").

The area marked in Sackett as 'Ruins' is now identified as C7086. Of this area Sackett says: "About 400 m. from this site (C1248, RHC) on the left of the road to Ayios Ayinnakos more deep ploughing has uncovered an earlier site on a south-facing slope, with Neolithic worked flint and chippings, E.H., possible M.H., and a few Roman sherds. The site ... seems to have been abandoned at the end of E.H."

The stream that Sackett mentions is plausibly at F6134. All this area has been disturbed by extensive olive monocrop agriculture.
