GENERAL SITE TYPE  Tomb

TYPE

1.    Chamber Tomb.   Mountjoy [1995], 17    'In the south Lower Town a large chamber tomb, Tomb 13, was cut at present-day 110 Dimitrakipoulou St.. The pottery it contained shows that it was in use for many generations. ... The tomb is one of the earliest chamber tombs in Athens and must have been one of the first in a large cemetery, as later tombs in the area bear witness. It is not close to the Acropolis and suggests the presence of a separate settlement on the banks of the Ilissos river.'
2.    Pottery.   Mountjoy [1995], 33    'The flask ...is from Pit 5 in the large chamber tomb, Tomb 13, at 110 Dimitrakopoulou St.; other LHIIIA1 vases come from Pits 2-5 in this tomb and from the floor.'
3.    Tomb.   Mountjoy [1995], 46    '.. as a stirrup jar bears witness, ...'
