NOTES
1. There is a notice in AD 2001, 546 that describes an effort to clear and inspect the area (στη θέση Αγ. Ιωάννης) of these tombs. Kyparissis had described the area as a cultivated field but the new expedition found the area covered with asphakes and oak (ασφάκες και πουρνάρια, ... ). Pournaria is kermes or prickly oak (Quercus coccifera). 'Ασφάκες' is probably Phlomis fruticosa; see this. The AD notice goes on to say that it is not known whether the graves they discovered are the same as those that Kyparissis examined (Είναι άγνωστο προς το παρόν αν πρόκειται για τους ίδιους τάφους που είχε ανασκάψει ο Κυπαρίσσης). From this I can only draw the conclusion that the location of Kyparissis' original site is lost.
