PERIOD (High Chronology)

1. Geometric: (900 BC - 700 BC)
    a.    Parker [2008]: 113, '...Korinthian G ...', 'This belonged to a structure of comparable date (eighth century) whether a temple or temenos wall ...'
    b.    Mazarakis-Ainian [1997]: 246, 'In the immediate proximity two Corinthian Geometric or SG sherds were collected.'
    c.    JHS[1952]: 99, '... and is dated by Corinthian Geometric pottery.'

2. Middle Geometric: (850 BC - 760 BC)
    a.    BCH [1952]: 245, 'Deux tessons corinthiens géométriques ou subgéométriques,'
    b.    Mazarakis-Ainian [1997]: 246, 'Courbin dated this wall to the 8th c. and M. Voyatzis suggests that the structure was either a temple or a temenos wall.'

3. Late Geometric: (760 BC - 700 BC)
    a.    BCH [1952]: 245, 'Deux tessons corinthiens géométriques ou subgéométriques,'
    b.    Parker [2008]: 113, '...(or possibly sub-Geometric) cups, ...'
    c.    Mazarakis-Ainian [1997]: 246, 'In the immediate proximity two Corinthian Geometric or SG sherds were collected.'

NOTES

1.  Translation from BCH[1952] 245: "..., with an interior bearing wall (mur de refend) towards the south east, older than the temple foundations. Two Corinthian sherds, geometric or subgeometric, thus perhaps 8th century, were found in the immediate vicinity."

2.  The phrase 'mur de refend' is defined as a load-bearing interior wall in Jean-Marie Pérouse de Monclos, Architecture; description et vocabulaire méthodiques, Éditions du Patrimoine, Centre des monuments nationaux, Paris, 2011 (978-2-7577-0124-9). On p. 169 of that work under the article 'Mur-de-Refend' we read 'Mur porteur, montant de fond et formant une division a l'intérieur d'un bâtiment.

3.  For the previous stage of temple excavation at Gortys see BCH (75) 130 ff., [1951].
