NOTE
1. Dr. Taylour [1958] 7 says "The site chosen by him (Buchner, RHC) was a hill, called Castiglione, on the north coast of the island, situated between the port of Ischia and the little town of Casamicciola. The excavation was... carried out under great difficulties, largely due to the necessity of respecting the terraced vineyards that cover the hillside." This location has changed considerably since that time (mid-1930's) and is now somewhat overbuilt although there are still traces of vineyards in the area. Given the constraints, the marker has been placed in a plausible location in the Localita Castiglione.
