With respect to this site Dr. Fossey cannot conceal his contempt for a certain kind of archaeologist (pp. 136-7): " ... the inexcusable destruction wrought there by Jamot in the years 1888-1891, for he completely dismantled the fortifications which had survived well until his day. ... the many inscriptions and pieces of sculpture built into the circuit, which were the real objective of Jamot, ... In this way, a unique site was lost to archaeology in the search for a certain type of artifact - the mentality of the treasure-hunter."
