3.    Settlement.   Simpson [1981], 11    'The acropolis hill of Mycenae ... has a well defined upper citadel, with a flat top and steep or precipitous sides. The area enclosed by the Mycenaean fortifications at the time of their maximum extent (in the LH IIIB period) is estimated to have been about 38,500 m².'
